Week #23 The World According To Wayne White

Week #23 The World According To Wayne White

Without question the biggest attraction on Founders’ Day on Saturday, July 23 was the 1000 foot Urban Slide. The numerous pictures depict the large crowd that came out for the experience of sliding down Broadway. Mayor Williams along with people of all ages enjoyed this first time event.

Another added feature was the Caribbean Festival on Mill Street. Food samples were being offered plus many vendors were selling a wide range of items which indeed created a festive atmosphere on Mill Street. After taking numerous photos I even got to enjoy a cold beer at the Millcreek Pub while chatting with pub owner Don Beattie. Don was thrilled with the beehive of activity on Mill Street.

There were lots of things to see and do on Broadway with talent shows and live performers mingling in and out of the crowd. A long tradition on Founders’ Day is for the shops along Broadway to offer sidewalk sales while placing some of their products in front of their stores. In the past I have always taken advantage of Founders’ Day sales to begin my back to school shopping. Now that I’m a retired school teacher the need for back to school clothing is no longer a necessity so I got to go for a relaxing stroll along Broadway while snapping away with my camera. It is always a very unique and enjoyable experience to walk up and down Broadway when it is closed to traffic.

Farmers’ Market was also present with vendors arriving well before 8:00 am to offer fresh fruit and vegetables plus a wide assortment of baked goods.

Founders’ Day was once again a highly successful event thanks to the creativity of our local BIA and enthusiastic business owners. This event is just another example of how Orangeville strives to be a very special town.

Future Blogs will include Junior B lacrosse Founders’ Cup, RCMP Musical Ride, Island Lake 5k and 10k Classic Race and much, much more all in Orangeville!
